There is a story in Ganesh Puran which says that once Lord Mangal the planet deity who presides over Tuesday performed penance for Ganesh. So he is worshipped on Mangalvar (Tuesday).
“Take care of your Mother and father more than the Earth. Take care of the Earth as your Mother and and father (Spoken by Ganesha)”
